Let the healing begin.
Nebraska-Omaha received a shocking announcement after it won the 2011 NCAA Division II NCAA Championships. The school dropped wrestling hours after the program won its sixth team title in eight seasons.
The Mavericks were locked out of the gymnasium upon arrival at the school — a disrespectful move that angered alumni and fans.
An attempt to repair a fractured relationship is underway with a celebration of Nebraska-Omaha Wrestling on October 14, 2023. A reception will take place at 2 p.m. CST at Sapp Fieldhouse followed by recognition of all wrestling alumni during halftime of the hockey game.
"We want to honor the 2011 NCAA Division II national championship wrestling team and recognize and celebrate all of the wrestlers, coaches, parents, and wrestling family of the 63-year wrestling tradition at UNO," said seven-time national championship coach Mike Denney. "Let's have some fellowship and food together."
