Love On the Spectrum: Michael Explains What Women Want In A Relationship - Screen Rant

Netflix's Love On the Spectrum lets viewers understand what difficulties and challenges autistic adults face while entering into the dating game. Let's check out what Michael,  one of the cast members, thinks young women want from their partners.

The dating show features a couple of singletons - Michael, Chloe, Maddi, Kelvin, Mark, Andrew, and Olivia. They are on the autistic spectrum and looking for their ideal partners. Unlike many other dating shows, Love On the Spectrum also showcases two successful autistic couples  - Ruth and Thomas, who are engaged for one and a half years and Jimmy and Sharnae, who have been together for around three years. The series begins with Micheal, a 25-year-old single who is excellent at picking up social cues and reading facial expressions. He is thinking about dating someone for a long time but has not been on a date yet. That's why he picks up a few dating tips from his brother, who is supposedly good at dating women.

Netflix uploaded a short snippet from the show.  In the video, Michael is discussing with his family how dating works in modern times. He said, "A lot of people our age are not interested in commitment — they are only interested in intercourse." His whole family laughed, and the father dropped his meal. Well, it is hilarious and somewhat accurate. He added, "What I've also noticed with a lot of girls your age, Liv, when they're still in high school they only want a boyfriend not just for intercourse but as a bodyguard and as a sugar daddy." His mother couldn't control her joy and said, "I think every family needs a Michael. It just adds something different." Check out the video below:

Many people believe that people suffering from this disorder don't want to feel loved or have affection. But, this series debunks the biggest misconception that autistic people are not interested in relationships. They are! Just like Michael, many other young adults with disabilities are keen to fall in love. However, they lack platforms and different ways to find a suitable date.

The maker of the show, Cian O'Clery, has previously worked with various TV series, which revolved around autistic people, their families, job coaches, psychologists, and autism organizations. He noticed that many young autistic adults want to find love, "but many had never even been on a date in their lives. When you speak to a large number of people whose main desire in life is to have a partner, and they haven't even been on a date, something isn't right." Perhaps this show will encourage non-autistic people to help make things easier for young autistic adults, who are struggling to deal with love, relationship, and dating.
