Marketing and more: Can this relationship be saved? - Orange County Breeze

bilaumur.blogspot.com

I am getting a divorce. While it has been a long relationship with many memorable moments, it ended when it became obvious beyond doubt that I was no longer valued, respected or appreciated. I cannot ignore the upsetting situation any longer. Friends wondered why it took so long to leave. Truth is, I held out hope that offensive actions were aberrations. Looking back, I stayed longer than I should have.

I am divorcing Fox News.

  • Found someone else’s lipstick on the collar – You can’t get any lower on the scale of respectability than being fired by CNN. The “Communist News Network” fired former Democratic National Committee Chief Donna Brazile in 2016 after learning that she gave candidate Hillary Clinton the debate topics. In March 2019, Brazile was hired by the Fox News Channel as a political commentator.
  • Discovered a motel room key – Former Rep. Paul Ryan (poster child for RINOs – Republican in Name Only) was speaker of the House the first two years of President Trump’s administration. In March 2019, he became a Fox News board of director. Ryan said in a Vanity Fair interview that by being a board member it would allow him to “do something” about President Trump. A Fox executive told Vanity Fair that “Paul is embarrassed about Trump and now he has the power to do something about it.”
  • Found a love letter in his pocket – Watching the election results on Nov. 3, Trump supporters wondered why Fox News hadn’t called Florida and Texas for the president when it was obvious, he had won those two states. Hours went by. Nothing. Yet, within minutes of polls closing in Arizona (with many people still waiting to vote), Fox called the state for Biden. Why? Because the Fox News Decision Desk was headed by Democrat Arnon Mishkin. Mishkin voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, worked as a Democrat political consultant and has donated to Democrats going back to the Obama-Biden 2008 campaign.

Stayed for the kids

Many people involved in failing long-term relationships stay for the kids. I did the same because I thought most of the kids loved or at least respected me.

At first, it appeared they were with me even if a few had questionable loyalties. But then some of the other kids started loudly showing disrespect. Surely those I trusted for years would stick with me.

Finally, the daily emotional abuse became too much when some I had trusted for years made it obvious what they thought of my allegiance. The kids would eventually come with me or stay behind – it would be their choice.

As I explained to the marriage counselor, insults would be hurled during the day but when the sun went down, it was all sweet talk and roses.

Time to move on

A lot of husbands have affairs believing they can successfully straddle between the wife at home and the woman in the motel bed. Fox News erroneously believed it could do the same. They had daytime hosts, who carry little influence with most Fox viewers, repeating Democrat falsehoods as if Moses delivered them from the mountaintop. But at night, Fox allowed its evening hosts, the ones that bring in the big bucks, to kinda, sorta talk to its core audience: Trump supporters.

I ignored the emotional abuse until that fateful Election Night. Like a motel towel accidentally finding its way into the family laundry, it became impossible to ignore what was happening. As fellow Trumplican Brenda M. of Los Alamitos explained, “I didn’t leave Fox News because the election didn’t seem to go my way. I left because the network promotes being ‘fair and balanced’ and they were anything but on election night. Fox News’ full liberal bias was on display.”

Like a loving middle-aged wife tossed aside for a bleached-blonde twenty-something who doesn’t know politics from polyester, I found strength with two new friends: Newsmax and One America News. As reported in “Trump-friendly Newsmax Seeks to Cut into Fox’s Viewership” –

From the beginning of July to the week before Election Day, Newsmax averaged 58,000 viewers from 7 to 10 p.m. on weekdays. That jumped to 568,000 the week after the election, the Nielsen company said. In the same period, daytime viewership increased from 46,000 to 450,000.

Then for the week of Nov. 8, Morning Joe beat Fox & Friends for the first time since 2001! Newsmax was also beating Fox News during the day. As Media Confidential reported on Nov. 9 –

Newsmax TV surpassed both Fox Business and CNBC in daytime ratings after Election Day.

The Newsmax numbers are even higher since Nielsen doesn’t report the average 100,000 per minute live viewers that tune into Newsmax TV on YouTube. Newsmax was also outpacing Fox Business in prime time, where the big advertising dollars come in.

Businesses spend decades and millions of dollars building a loyal customer base. Amazingly Fox News is tossing its loyal viewership aside with aspirations of becoming a CNN carbon copy. On Nov. 28, President Trump tweeted:

“@Fox News daytime is virtually unwatchable, especially during the weekends. Watch @OANN, @Newsmax or almost anything else. You won’t have to suffer through endless interviews with Democrats, and even worse!”

So, is the relationship between conservatives and Fox News over? Like red lipstick on a white collar that won’t come out in the wash, this relationship cannot be saved.
